Outdoor Seating Expansion Proposals

As a response to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic and in order to mitigate the potential negative impacts of social distancing requirements imposed upon small businesses, particularly restaurants, bars, and other eateries, the Township of Cranford has proposed to temporarily amend the requirements for the creation or expansion of outdoor seating.

Township Ordinance No. 20-009 temporarily grants a Code Review Committee the power to grant a Site Plan Waiver to applications seeking to create or expand outdoor seating as a means to mitigate the potential impacts related to social distancing and limited reopening requirements for small businesses classified as eateries and/or bars. This ordinance has since been extended indefinitely by Ordinance No. 20-409 which will be in effect until amended or repealed by the Township Committee. The intent is to repeal this enabling ordinance with the lifting of the State of Emergency by the Governor. 

As per the recommendations of the Township's professionals, applications to create new or expand existing outdoor seating for such establishments will be publicly posted for review and the public will be given the opportunity to participate in the review process and comment on said proposals. Any proposals received will be posted here along with instructions on how the public will be able to participate.
