PERMITS, FORMS, & FEES  *  RIGHT-OF-WAY  *  NEW JERSEY ONE-CALL  

SIDEWALK, DRIVEWAY APRON AND CURB PERMITS: Sidewalk, Curb and Driveway Apron Permits are required for new construction or replacement of existing sidewalks, curbs and driveway aprons along all Municipal and County Roads throughout the Township.

Any curb to be constructed within State and County roads are under the jurisdiction of the NJDOT and the County, respectively.  For specifics on curb construction and permit requirements, the applicant is to contact the State and County.

ROAD OPENING PERMITS: A Road Opening Permit is required for excavation within the Street Right-Of-Way (ROW) along all Municipal Roads throughout the Township by any individual, property owner, contractors, plumbers and/or utility companies performing excavation activities. 

Any contractor removing and/or replacing and/or constructing new sewer lines is required to apply for a road opening permit.  Individuals and/or contractors are required to pay for the permit, to pay for a connection fee, if new, and to post a bond as requested by the Engineering Department.

Permits along County and State roads are under the jurisdiction of Union County and NJDOT, respectively.

STREET RIGHT–OF–WAYS: Each street within the Township has a specific Right-Of-Way (ROW), which can vary between 10ft and 20ft from the edge of the curb to the property line on both sides of the street. Residents shall understand that this area is public property; however, by ordinance; the property owners are responsible to maintain. In other words, the property owner is responsible to replace any damaged/broken sidewalk, curb, driveway apron, tree and vegetation. This area is to be kept clean and clear of any debris, snow, leaves, tree branches, etc.

Encroachments into the Street Right-Of-Way are prohibited. All signs, fences, walls, structures, etc. shall be within the confines of the respective property boundaries.

NEW JERSEY ONE CALL: New Jersey State Law requires that you must call the New Jersey One Call System before you dig (excavation, demolition, etc.) whether it’s a small or a large construction or homeowner project (such as putting up a fence, mail box post or real estate sign post, building a home addition, deck or foundation, etc.) for marking underground utility lines. Calls must be made three (3) business days in advance, but no more than ten (10) business days. Excavation must commence within ten (10) business days. Operators are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. CALL 1-800-227-1000 or 811

DUMPSTER PERMIT: Any individual or a company shall apply for a dumpster permit if a dumpster is to be placed on the Township owned streets. The permit can be issued upon completing the application and fee payment. The individual or company shall follow the instructions described on the dumpster ordinance. Dumpster regulations are enforced by the Township Police Department and Health Office.

POSTING OF PERFORMANCE GUARANTEES FOR WORK TO BE DONE WITHIN THE MUNICIPALITY’S R.O.W., IS REQUIRED FOR ANY NON-RESIDENTIAL APPLICATION THROUGH THE ZONING AND/OR PLANNING BOARDS. AMOUNT OF GUARANTEES TO BE CALCULATED AT THE TIME THE CONSTRUCTION PERMITS ARE ISSUED.
