Winter Storm Warning Issued for the Township of Cranford

 Residents Urged to Avoid Unnecessary Travel

Cranford, N.J. December 2, 2019 – The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning in effect until 7 a.m. Tuesday for our area. The forecast is calling for hazardous weather conditions with accumulations of 5 to 7 inches of heavy, wet snow.

Remain off the roads if possible so that first responders and public safety officials can safely respond to emergency situations. Please ensure that parked vehicles are not within 15 feet of crosswalks and intersections so emergency vehicles are able to pass without difficulty. Car removal is required on the snow emergency routes, including County and State roadways. Vehicles left on these roads are subject to towing.

The Department of Public Works began applying salt on Sunday in preparation for the storm, and plow crews will continue clearing roads until all roads are clear. Please be reminded that sidewalks are homeowners’ responsibility and should be cleared within 24 hours. Fire units will be out assessing hydrants and fire lanes after the snow ends. Residents can greatly assist the FD and DPW by clearing out snow blocked fire hydrants near their home.

Please use extra caution if you must travel. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibility. Please keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

To report downed wires or power outages, call PSE&G’s Customer Service line at 1-800-436-PSEG.  Also, customers can report outages by logging into their PSE&G account online or by texting “OUT” to 4PSEG (47734).
