Twp. to Test New Pumps at End of Balmiere Parkway on 8/31

        August 29, 2023

        Dear Residents,

On Thursday, Aug. 31, the Township will be testing new portable pumps at the end of Balmiere Parkway. The new portable pumps will replace the 50 year-old equipment the Township uses for big storms.

         A few things to know:

  • The installation and set up will begin after 7:30 am and testing will start about 8:30 am
  • Public Works and the Fire Dept will open the hydrant to allow 6 to 8 inches of water into a designated area at the end of Balmiere.
  • Sandbags will be put out to contain the water until the new pumps are activated to drain the water
  • Residents, emergency vehicles and general traffic will still be able to access the street. Only one driveway will be blocked and that resident has been notified.
  • The new pumps, 2 x Godwin CD150S Dri-Prime Pumps, are smaller than the old pumps and significantly more efficient.
  • Each equipped with a new generation of Field Smart Technology for remote monitoring and control.
  • Each Pump has a Max Capacity = 2290 Gallons Per Minute / 38.16 Gallons Per Second.
  • The Township chose equipment that can be heard rather than silent pumps so that residents can be assured they are working.
  • Township officials, including the engineer and public works staff, will be present for testing and training from the pump manufacturer which will last about 2-3 hours.

The pump replacement is just one of the steps being taken toward flooding and stormwater mitigation. The Township resurrected and expanded the original Phase 5 Project. Mott, MacDonald Engineering is finalizing recommendations for your neighborhood, Doering to Springfield, Willow, Brookside to West End. We will keep residents informed of the results.

Thank you for your cooperation during the pump testing. Feel free to contact the Township Administrator Lavona Patterson, 908-709-7250, with questions or concerns.
