Road Drainage Improvements and Dike Repair Projects

  • Rehabilitation of Dikes along Riverside Drive - Improvements include repairs to eroded sections of the dike due to overtopping and reestablishing the original crest elevation. It also includes removal of minor woody vegetation and establishing turf repairs as needed.
  • Kensington Avenue - Improvements include upgrades to the drainage systems at the intersection with Riverside Drive and Edgar Avenue. It also includes installation of granite block curb and milling and paving at the intersection with Edgar Avenue. Test pits will be conducted prior to roadway construction to locate exiting utilities.
  • Belmont Avenue - Improvements include upgrades to the drainage systems starting at Edgar Avenue and extending to approximately 90 Belmont Avenue. It also includes installation of granite block curb at the location of new inlets. Test pits will be conducted prior to construction to locate exiting utilities.
  • Edgar Avenue - Improvements include upgrades to the drainage systems in the vicinity of Kensington Avenue. It also includes installation of granite block curb and milling and paving of the roadway from Venetia Avenue to Henley Avenue. Test pits will be conducted prior to roadway construction to locate existing utilities.

The work for the Dike repairs will start the week of April 17th and is expected to continue for about a month. Sections of the dike may be closed to pedestrians during construction activities.

Test pit work is scheduled to begin around the end of April 2023 for all three roadways. The drainage improvement work is scheduled to begin in late spring and the roadway milling and paving operations is expected to follow the drainage work and be completed by the end of the summer of 2023. This schedule is weather dependent and based on availability of materials.

These streets will be open to emergency Police, Fire and First Aid vehicles at all times. During the roadwork, please drive with extreme caution as the roadways will be an active construction area. Traffic cones will be placed to indicate potential hazards and police will be on site during work.
