Reminder: Please dispose of "flushable wipes" in household trash and do not flush.

Dear Homeowners,

Some residents have experienced sewer line back ups into their homes which is caused by wipes being flushed into the system. These “flushable” wipes must not be disposed of into the sanitary sewer and should be disposed of with your regular garbage. The wipes are not biodegrable and cause blockage within the main pipe. Additionally, these wipes cause treatment issues at the Rahway Valley Sewerage Authority Treatment Plant that serves Cranford and other towns.

According to the Rules and Regulations of the Rahway Valley Sewerage Authority, Section 102.1, these “flushable” wipes are classified as solids, and Section 401.2 prohibits the discharge of any solids which would cause obstruction to the flow and treatment process.

Immediately discontinue flushing these products into the sewer and dispose in regular household trash. If you experience a backup issue please contact the Dept. of Public Works at 908-709-7217 or dpw@cranfordnj.org.

Thank you for your cooperation.
