Looking for a Memorable Night Out? Little Fox Kitchen Is For You

Cranford has become known for the variety and quality of its dining scene. The local community obviously has a love of good food, so what better addition to the downtown area than a cooking school? Cooking instructor Melanie Cecilio had toured a number of different towns in Union County before she came across Cranford and fell in love. The streetscape, the community feel, and the walkability of downtown all led her to believe that Cranford was the perfect place to open Little Fox Kitchen, located at 1 South Ave East.

Melanie, owner of Little Fox Kitchen

Melanie Cecilio grew up in the Philippines and went to hotel school in Switzerland. She then returned to the Philippines where she worked as a confidential secretary to a Supreme Court Justice. She remained at this position for nearly 5 years, at which time she also married and had two sons. After having children Melanie made the decision to stay at home, and then eventually opened a cooking school in Manila with some friends. Melanie worked at the school for a few years, then moved to the United States with her family in 2007. She eventually began working at the Institute for Culinary Education, as well as other cooking schools including Haven's Kitchen in New York and The Silo Hunt Hill Farm in Connecticut. Melanie was also approached about doing a cooking school in Hoboken, which she ran for a year before handing it off to her partner. Her desire was to have a cooking school of her own, but it took over a year of searching before she came across the perfect space in Cranford.

Kitchen area

The space of Little Fox Kitchen is described by Melanie as "modern French farmhouse." The school will showcase international cuisines and class offerings include "Kitchen Knife Skills," "Thai Favorites," "Learn to Wok," and "Paella & Tapas." The classes will allow customers to get hands-on cooking experience and then enjoy the fruits of their labor, family style, with other students. Melanie plans to offer around 4 classes a week, with each class running 3 hours. She will also have instructors from other schools occasionally teach classes in their area of expertise. Little Fox Kitchen is also available for private events and corporate team building events.

Retail corner

"I love teaching," said Melanie. "The opportunity to see someone leave your class amazed at their own capabilities is one of the best feelings. My goal with this school is to make cooking not only fun, but also accessible to everyone." We hope you'll join us in welcoming Melanie and Little Fox Kitchen to Cranford.
