Hina's Salon, Where "Beauty is Our Business"

Hina Tailor worked in a salon for over 15 years, and last year decided she wanted to take the leap and open her own business. Hina and her family reside in Scotch Plains so she was considering a number of the nearby towns for her salon's location. While out at dinner in downtown Cranford one night, Hina and her husband realized that Cranford would be a great fit. The amount of people walking around, as well as the safety and community feel of the town, led to the birth of Hina's Salon at 124 South Ave. East.

Hina views her salon as a one-stop shop when it comes to beauty services. She offers haircuts, coloring, and blow outs, in addition to organic waxing and organic facials. However, the service that the salon is quickly becoming known for is eyebrow threading. Hina sees eyebrow threading as a good alternative to waxing as it provides an excellent eyebrow shape, and can also remove ingrown hairs. Eyebrow threading only takes about 10 minutes, so many customers can just walk in and get it done. Hina estimates that about 50% of her business comes from threading. Another service that sets the salon apart is henna tattoos, which can be done just for fun or for a special occasion.

The previous salon that Hina worked at was in New Brunswick, so nearly all of her clients at Hina's Salon are new. Many of them have discovered the business due to word of mouth, as well as from the salon's stellar reviews online. Hina's Salon offers customers reward cards that they can redeem after 5 visits for a free eyebrow threading or money off a future service.

Hina's family was instrumental in helping her business open and thrive. Her husband Perry helped design the salon and install many of the fixtures. Her daughter Megha does the salon's social media and the entire family offered input on the color scheme of the salon. Hina's Salon has been open for 6 months and the experience so far has been extremely positive. "I love my job, and I love that we were able to open our business in Cranford," said Hina. "Everyone here has been extremely friendly and I'm thrilled that so many people have already become repeat customers."
