Cranford Tree Requests
The Township of Cranford recognizes that our trees and natural environment are important parts of our community. Thanks to a partnership between the Environmental Commission, the Green Team and the Department of Public Works (DPW), we are organizing the annual Tree Replacement Project to plant street trees for Cranford residents. The presence of shade trees increases the value of properties, reduces the cost of heating and cooling and acts as a valuable resource, improving appearance and tranquility of the neighborhood.

If you have an interest in having a tree planted in the public right of way in front of your residence (land between the street and sidewalk) and can commit to caring for it, please complete and submit the form below, or mail or bring it to the Municipal Building or DPW Office at the Roundhouse. Trees will be provided on a first come first serve basis, so please respond as soon as possible.

After receipt and review by the Superintendent of Public Works, you will be notified as to the type and location of the new tree. The primary objective is to select a tree that will grow safely and provide the greatest possible level of benefits to a neighborhood. Trees are planted, by the DPW, during our two planting seasons: Spring (March 15 to May 31) and Fall (September 15 to October 31). Trees will only be planted in locations that promote tree health, minimize hazards, and reduce sidewalk conflicts. The DPW will determine the tree type based on site location factors such as amount of sunlight, the presence of overhead wires and space constraints.
