Do I have to register my burglar / fire alarm?

Yes. Local Ordinance requires that all alarms (burglar/fire) that will initiate a response from an emergency service (police/fire/ambulance) must be registered with the Cranford Police Department. This registration is for a period of one year, renewable every January. The current permit fees for alarms monitored directly at the police department are: $95 for residential units and $200 for commercial units. If your alarm is monitored by a third party vendor such as ADT the fee is $40 for the first year and $25 every year thereafter. Permit application can be obtained from the Records Bureau during normal business hours or you can download a copy from our site. Failure to register your alarm may result in fines being issued. In addition, fines are issued for each unsubstantiated alarm responded to starting with the fourth response. Fines range from $15 to $100 per violation. A copy of the alarm ordinance can also be found on our site.
