Three Additional Cases of COVID-19 Identified in Cranford

Township of Cranford Mayor Patrick Giblin, the Health Department and Office of Emergency Management today received notice from the State Department of Health that there are three new confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in Cranford. These three (3) positive cases bring Cranford’s total to six (6) confirmed cases as of March 20, 2020. According to the NJ Department of Health, as of yesterday, there are 742 positive test results Statewide. State health officials will provide the latest official numbers for cases at a 2 p.m.. press conference.

The Township Health Department is conducting contact tracing pursuant to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and New Jersey Department of Health guidelines. Individuals who were in contact with the positive patients will been contacted and an investigation is ongoing. Each location visited by the positive cases will be notified of the individual’s exposure and symptoms to allow the identification of close contacts and to increase awareness of those exposed for potential development of symptoms.

To protect the private medical information of these individuals, Cranford will not be releasing additional information about these cases. We ask that residents respect our impacted residents right to privacy based on the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

We wish the individuals with confirmed cases of the virus well and their families the best in this difficult time. We also remind residents to remain vigilant in following the guidance provided by the Centers for Disease Control, the State of New Jersey and our public health officials when it comes to social distancing, hand washing, covering coughs and sneezes and disinfecting common areas. It is the best way to reduce the rapid spread of this virus.
