HOME Power Yoga Joins the Downtown Community

Katie Tierney and Liz Snyder grew up in a big family, as two of 8 siblings. Of those 8 siblings, seven currently reside in Cranford, along with a number of spouses and children. So when Katie and Liz made the decision to partner and open a yoga studio, Cranford was the only place they could imagine seeing their dream come to life. It wasn't long before they found the perfect space downtown and after a lot of hard work, blood, sweat and tears, HOME Power Yoga opened its doors.

Katie and Liz have been practicing yoga for a number of years. Katie trained as a teacher when she was pregnant with her 3rd child, while Liz did teacher training right out of college. The sisters both love to teach, and found that they wanted to find a way to give back to the community. In their minds, the best way to accomplish this was with their own yoga studio.

The studio has 10 teachers and offers students a number of different classes as they try their hardest to accommodate everyone's schedule. There are 5:45AM classes for early risers, as well as evening classes, and a 9:30AM class that also offers childcare. One of the studios is outfitted with infrared lights which warm bodies and also provide detoxifying and cardio benefits. Katie and Liz stress that every class is taught as if there are beginners present, so the classes are accessible to people of all skill sets. New clients can pay just $59 and receive one month of unlimited yoga.

In the near future, HOME Power Yoga will be offering a free donation-based community class to benefit yoga classes in Africa. Liz has traveled to Kenya and trained teachers there. "It's amazing to see for yourself that yoga works for anyone, anywhere," said Liz. The studio will also have regular classes for children in the fall, something that many families are interested in. "Yoga can be so great for kids," said Katie. "It empowers them and helps them regulate their feelings. It also teaches them how to be more mindful."

The sisters both view yoga as a tool that can help people throughout their lives. "It provides a union of mind and body," said Katie. "It serves not only as a form of life training, but also teaches people that they're good as they are." The enthusiasm and passion that Katie and Liz have for yoga, as well as for sharing it with the community, is extraordinary to behold. We're thrilled that these Cranford sisters have made downtown their yoga studio's home.
